Tracing wedge-internal deformation by means of strontium isotope systematics of vein carbonates

Abstract Radiogenic strontium isotopes ( 87 Sr/ 86 Sr) of vein carbonates play a central role in the tectonometamorphic study fold-and-thrust belts and accretionary wedges have been used to document fluid sources fluxes, for example, along major fault zones. In addition, Sr ratios can trace diagenetic metamorphic evolution pore fluids accreted sediments. Here we present from Infrahelvetic flysch units European Alps (Glarus Alps, Switzerland), which were North Alpine belt during early stages continental collision. We show that isotopic an initial seawater-like signature towards composition host rock with increasing grade. This relationship reflects progressive equilibration allows us constrain low-grade conditions deformation events, including bedding-parallel shearing, imbricate thrusting, folding, cleavage development, tectonic mélange formation extension. The isotope systematics provides new insights into prograde retrograde helps understand relative timing events.
